 Upper Adams School District Mission

Vision 

The School Library Media Program is an integral part of student achievement at Biglerville High School/Upper Adams Middle School.  Equitable and timely access to information and ideas is provided for all students and staff in an atmosphere that promotes a joy of reading and life-long learning.  Through consultation and instructional partnerships, the School Librarian supports planning in all curricular areas by facilitating learning and developing instructional resources.  An integrated instructional program ensures all students and staff are effective users of ideas and information.

 

Philosophy

  Biglerville High’s/Upper Adams Middle School's School Library Media Program provides instruction, resources, and services to assist students and teachers in becoming critical thinkers in the pursuit and use of ideas and information.  Miss Starner and Mrs. Myers, as professional media specialist and media assistant, realize the vision by providing the following:


 1.  A facility that is welcoming and conducive to learning.

2.  Support for students developing a joy of reading for pleasure and to gain information.

3.  An instructional program that is integrated with the curriculum and meets the student learning outcomes in information literacy, independent learning, and socially responsible use of information and information technology.

4.  Instructional partnerships in all curricular areas to facilitate learning and to develop instructional resources.

5.  Support of classroom reading instruction.

6.  Support for students and staff in developing skills in understanding, using, and producing media in various formats.

7.  Equitable and timely access to organized collections of resources and delivery of services.

8.  Diverse collections of information resources that support curricula and students’ personal interests.

9.  Current instructional and information technologies that enhance learning for students and staff.

10.  Support for teachers in their effective use of various technologies.

11.  Partnerships with parents and community members to foster a community of learners.

12.  Areas for independent learning and small group collaboration.
