Important Information for Professional Employees
The Pennsylvania Department of Education learned of a security incident on the Teacher Information Management System (TIMS), where personal information of teachers and administrators was potentially compromised.
The incident occurred between 12:00 and 12:30 PM on Thursday, February 22. The exposure was the result of human error by an employee in the Office of Administration (OA); no hacking occurred. Upon discovery of the security incident, TIMS was taken offline immediately.
As the Pennsylvania Department of Education and Office of Administration conclude the investigation into the security incident on the Teacher Information Management System (TIMS), our efforts are now focused on identifying individuals whose personal information may have been visible to users logged into TIMS between 12:00 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 22.
In the coming days, PDE and OA will notify in writing the individuals who were potentially impacted, and will provide information about free credit monitoring services.
The commonwealth will be providing a year of free credit monitoring to those impacted by this incident. Affected individuals will receive information about how to access these services. Credit monitoring coverage will be back-dated to the day the incident occurred.
PDE and OA will review their internal procedures to prevent similar mishaps in the future and sincerely apologize to anyone impacted.
