Degrees and Certifications:

Mr. Sheldon Smith

I was born in Gettysburg, PA. and I am the youngest in the family of twelve children.  I attended Gettysburg Area School District and graduated from high school in 1982.  While attending GASD I participated in the extra-curricular activities of band, football and wrestling.  While I enjoyed all of the activities, wresting was the activity in which I showed the most success.  I was Gettysburg's first District 3 AAA champion and a 6th place PIAA medalist in 1982.

I elected to accept a wrestling scholarship offer from Shippensburg University where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration/Management.  After graduating from Shippensburg University in 1986, I worked in the family dairy business until 1996.  From 1996 to 1998 I was employed by Roaring Spring Bottling as part of their management team at its Gettysburg, PA branch.  I then decided to resign from my postition with Roaring Spring Bottling to be a "Stay-At-Home-Dad" from 1998 until 2008.  During this time I began working with children through a Day Care program at my home as well as coaching many youth sports teams.  Several parents in the area who worked within the teaching field encouraged me to enter the educational field.  Thus, I returned to Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA and earned my Teaching Certification in 2006.  I completed several Long-term Substitute positions both at Upper Adams and Gettysburg Area School Districts while completing classes for my certification.  I was then hired permenantly by Upper Adams School District in 2009.

My wife and I were married in 1988 and are very proud of our three sons.  Our oldest son graduated from Bloomsburg University in may of 2016 and is currently employed with Deloitte in Mechanicsburg, PA.  Our family welcomed a wonderful daughter-in-law to our family as our oldest son was married in July, 2017.  Our other two sons are currently attending college.  One is a junior at Penn State University Park and the other is a sophomore at Shippensburg Unitersity.  As a family we have enjoyed soccer, football, boating and various water sports, and some wonderful vacations over the past years.  Of course, we have also greatly enjoyed our addtional family "member", Chloe, our golden labrador retriever.
