    Classified Employees
After checking the SafeSchools portal, most of you have accessed the Employee Handbook policy on the portal, but did not sign and return the acknowledgement.  If you have accessed the handbook, but did not return the signed acknowledgement to Sandy Sheppard, please do so now. The acknowledgement is attached to this e-mail.  If you are not sure if you returned the acknowledgement, please contact Sandy.

    afeschools Training Compliance
I am excited to say that we are almost 100% compliant with all trainings assigned for staff for this year.  A list of the names of those with outstanding assignments will go to each building supervisor today.  The deadline to complete all trainings is now past due (new hires have 60 days).
I know how challenging it is for staff to find the time to complete all the trainings.   I anticipate that at the end of this year we will be 100% compliant with all staff.
Thank you for putting your best effort forward to get this accomplished this year.

If you have not viewed the revised Classified Employee Handbook on the Safeschools training website, please do so as soon as possible.  This was to have been completed by September 30, and there are quite a few people who have not turned in the handbook acknowledgement yet.  Please sign the acknowledgement and send it to Sandy Sheppard in the Central Office.

    Friday Reminders For 11/4/2016
    For Teachers

Check and Update Your Information On the PA Department of Education TIMS Portal
In 2011, the PA Department of Education changed the way it processes all teacher certifications and emergency permits to a paperless system called TIMS (Teacher Information Management System).  All applications for teacher certification and emergency permits must be completed via the TIMS portal.  At that time information was sent by the district to all professional staff regarding this change.  Most teachers may not have needed to access the TIMS portal since then, and are therefore not familiar with it.
On October 3, 2016, I sent an e-mail asking professional certified staff to check the TIMS portal to update their information with PDE for their certification.  I apologize, that I did not give more specific information about the TIMS portal when the e-mail was sent.  I just assumed that all teachers were now familiar with the system.   I also did not realize that the instructions I sent were out of date.  I have attached a revised TIMS Portal Instruction page, and a TIMS manual to help you navigate the portal.
I was told by someone from PDE recently that teachers who have never accessed the TIMS portal and updated their information currently have "non-US Citizen" listed on their teacher certificate. The only way to correct this is for the teacher to log in and update their information.
If you are unable to log in or register on the portal, you will have to contact PDE, as I do not have the ability to assist you with logging in.  I can, however, give you your PPID number, if you do not know what it is.
Additional helpful information for you on PDE:

To view the number of your Act 48 hours on the PDE website:

Go to https://www.perms.ed.state.pa.us/Screens/wfPublicAccess.aspx to view your Act 48 hour completion.

You will need to enter your PPID number to obtain access to your specific information.
    All educational credits
and approved training hours are sent to PDE for upload to the Act 48 system
. This includes all hours submitted by the district, the LIU and all other educational entities.
If you do not see hours or credits listed by a specific entity you will need to contact them directly to find out why your credits/hours are not showing.  Contact Candy Bretzman at extension 2751, if you have questions regarding Act 48 hours that are submitted by the district.

Please be sure to double check your training completions on the SAFESCHOOLS training website at http://upperadams.pa.safeschools.com/login .  I have attached a list of the trainings that staff are required to complete for the 2016-2017 school year.  The pdf also includes a second page with a list of trainings that were required for the 2015-2016 school year.
The name of the training, the date it is/was due, and which category of staff should be completing each training is included at the top of the sheet.  If your classification requires you to complete a training, and you do not have access to it on your Safeschools portal, please contact me.
If you see any other errors, or have any questions, please contact me.
IT'S FREE!! - Employee Assistance Program (EAP) - EAP Flyers
The district provides 3 free counseling sessions per year, for all employees and their immediate family members.   There is an extensive list of providers for these services which can be found at wellspaneap.org.  All sessions are completely confidential.  There is no pressure for you to continue services with counselors, but if you choose to do so, you may at your own cost, or your insurance provider may pay for continuing services (check with your health insurance carrier).   If you have a struggling teenager, are grieving over the loss of a loved, or just need someone to talk to, these counseling services may help you in your everyday struggles.
    Thinking about retiring?
PSERS will hold a Foundations for Your Future (FFYF) seminar at Cedar Cliff High School Auditorium, 1301  Carlisle Road, Camp Hill onNovember 9, 2016  promptly at 4:30 PM.  For more information, contact PSERS at 888.773.7748 or go to the PSERS website at www.psers.state.pa.us
